Why join a congregation in this day and age? Isn’t organized religion an outdated concept here in 21st century Portland?
We’d argue just the opposite. Over and over again, in our work, we see how hard it is to go it alone. In times of illness and struggle, or in times of great celebration and joy, we need each other. We gain insight, strength and wisdom from others – none of us can educate our children alone, none of us should bury a loved one by ourselves. Our ancestors were wise in their insistence that we need a minyan to conduct certain rituals – human beings are comforted and challenged by being in a group.
Our membership reflects and embraces a wide spectrum of life choices and past affiliations. We invite you experience Shir Tikvah to see if it is the right fit for you and your family. Here and now in the 21st century, we can build a strong, caring kehillah (community). We invite you to join us.
